Plymouth Unite the Resistance - this Saturday

E-mail Print PDF

Why you should be at Unite the Resistance in Plymouth Saturday 14th January

There is a huge need to organise the Fightback. This includes a number of key issues:

 *    Strike Action: The Unions are now split over the Pensions fight, but over 1 million workers have rejected the Government offer of negotiations within by huge cuts. The negotiations are only offered if unions accept working longer and paying more to receive less pension – exactly what we took strike action against on 30th November 2011, when over 3000 marched through Plymouth City Centre. There is still much to fight for - even unison are divided, with Unison Health rejecting the deal. The unions rejecting the deal MUST call strike action, before half-term - we can provide the lead! We must build and Unite the Resistance! http://righttowork.org.uk/2012/01/unite-the-resistance-lobby-of-the-tuc-and-emergency-national-meeting/

Jan 3rd Meeting - A Critical Meeting At A Critical Time

E-mail Print PDF

Please note the next meeting of Plymouth Trades Union Council will be held on Tuesday 3rd January 2012 at 171 Armada Way 7pm  - you can park free on the roof of  Sainsburys car park opposite (the underneath car park closes at 9pm, so don’t go there). The venue has had to be changed due to us being unable to use the Thompsons Offices any more because of a Unite meeting. Future meetings of PTUC will be at 171 unless another trade union can offer free premises.

We face a critical and deeply disturbing situation in 2012. There is no more “business as usual”.

On 1st December, we were collectively celebrating a successful mass strike. We’d achieved superb working unity across 28 unions. We had massive public support, with people increasingly glad to see anyone fighting against a vicious Tory government. We had significant and growing support from private sector workers – for the same reasons. We got the government rattled.

November 30th - A Fantastic Day

E-mail Print PDF

November 30th was a fantastic day for the working class in Britain. There have been times in the last year when it seemed that we were lagging behind workers in countries like France, Italy, Spain and especially Greece as they fought back against the cuts agenda that seeks to make us pay for the bankers and bosses crisis. But N30 changed that.

Across the public sector millions struck, tens of thousands picketed and around 500,000 demonstrated in more than 1000 demonstrations in towns and cities throughout Britain.

In Plymouth thousands marched, with the police estimating 2,500. 14 different trades unions were united in action - surely unprecedented in our city, and joined together to organise events through the day.

Plymouth Unite the Resistance Conference

E-mail Print PDF

After the fantastic success of 14 unions in Plymouth to organise N30, the best day of Trades Union action in our city for decades, we are delighted to announce a Unite the Resistance Conference in Plymouth to build on that success.

We aim to have a range of local, regional and national speakers, and to bring together trades union, community and student activists, to ensure that we don't lose the amazing unity that made N30 possible, and to make sure that we don't lose momentum in our fight to defend pensions and to resist the cuts.

The conference will take place between 10:30 and 16:00 on Saturday 14th January- venue to be confirmed.

After N30 - Fight All the Cuts!

The Tory minority Government declared War on the working class on 29th November. Then, on 30th November, 2.5 million public sector workers went on strike, with over 500,000 workers on more than 1,000 demonstrations in towns and cities across Britain. And in Plymouth, 2,500 workers marched through the City Centre, chanting "2,4,6,8 We Won't Work 'til 68" and "They Say Cut Back, We Say Fightback!"

But what's next? We must fight all the cuts, and match fire with fire. The Tories say no compromise! So do we.

Come to the Plymouth "Unite the Resistance" Conference, Saturday 15th January 2012, and bring together Trade Unionists, Workers, Students, Claimants and activists into united action for peace, welfare and social justice!
