May Day 2012

E-mail Print PDF

May Day is International Workers' Day!

The Con-Dem government, that no-one voted for, continues to destroy OUR welfare state, passes laws to privatise OUR NHS, attacks working class people, caps or cuts OUR pay and conditions, cuts jobs, makes it easier for bosses to sack workers and tries to force us to pay more, work longer and get less pensions. This is justified as necessary to 'reduce the deficit' - in reality to make us all pay for the thousands of billions of pounds used to bail out the bankers. Tory ministers like to say that we are all in it together, but as last month's budget makes clear, it's cuts in tax for the rich, and cuts in everything else for us!

The unions are at the forefront of the fight to defend us from these attacks, and Plymouth TUC are proud to lead the fightback.

Join us on May 1st for our May Day march & rally -

March - Assemble 5pm outside the guildhall, Armada Way

Defend the NHS - Lobby PCH

E-mail Print PDF

Thursday 15th March – Plymouth Defend the NHS Lobby

Plymouth Community Healthcare (PCH) is holding a Public Consultation at the Plymouth Guildhall 11:30am – 2pm on Thursday 15th March. PCH is the social enterprise body that has detached all community health, including Mount Gould Hospital, mental health services and GPs, from the NHS. By 2015 the whole sector will have been “bought-up” by private providers.

There was NO public consultation before the Strategic Health Authority decided to hand over YOUR primary health to this unaccountable, unelected body - now we have a chance to tell them what we think!

We have to defend the NHS. Come to the lobby of the PCH Consultation and afternoon meeting at the Plymouth Guildhall – bring banners, placards and whistles. Tell everyone – Defend the NHS!

Don't Attack Iran public meeting

E-mail Print PDF

Don’t Attack Iran!

The Guardian (17/2/12) offers the clearest indications yet that the US will support Israel in an open attack on Iran: http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2012/feb/17/us-officials-iran-sanctions-military-action

This would destabilise the Middle East and will end in disaster. http://www.stopwar.org.uk/index.php/the-war-addicts-cant-kick-the-habit-an-attack-on-iran-must-be-stopped

The Stop the War Coalition, supported nationally by 18 trade unions, has called for protest action to raise the issues and stop any military action. http://www.stopwar.org.uk/

The Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament backs the call to prevent the potential of a fresh nuclear proliferation, and a dangerous Cold War in the Middle East: http://www.cnduk.org/media/item/1322-but-what-about-israeli-nukes-mr-browne?

Plymouth Trades Union Council is sponsoring a series of events demanding the US, UK or Israel “Don’t Attack Iran! https://www.facebook.com/groups/98356176420/

Plymouth Unite the Resistance - this Saturday

E-mail Print PDF

Why you should be at Unite the Resistance in Plymouth Saturday 14th January

There is a huge need to organise the Fightback. This includes a number of key issues:

 *    Strike Action: The Unions are now split over the Pensions fight, but over 1 million workers have rejected the Government offer of negotiations within by huge cuts. The negotiations are only offered if unions accept working longer and paying more to receive less pension – exactly what we took strike action against on 30th November 2011, when over 3000 marched through Plymouth City Centre. There is still much to fight for - even unison are divided, with Unison Health rejecting the deal. The unions rejecting the deal MUST call strike action, before half-term - we can provide the lead! We must build and Unite the Resistance! http://righttowork.org.uk/2012/01/unite-the-resistance-lobby-of-the-tuc-and-emergency-national-meeting/
